Geography of Bharatpur

Bharatpur, the nature lovers paradise, is located between 76o 53’ to 78o 17’ East Longitude and 26o 22’ to 27o 83’ North Latitude. It stands 100 meters above the sea level. It is just 184 km away from the capital of India. Northern border of Bharatpur district touches Gurgaon; eastern border meets Mathura, Southern border connects to Agra and Dholpur district. It also meets Alwar district in the north western part and the Dausa district in the south western part.

The region experiences variation in temperature and climatic conditions. It has quite hot summers and very chilly winters. The summer season brings suffocation and scorching heat. Maximum temperature reaches up to 49o  C, thus making the people feel exhausted. On the other hand, the minimum temperature comes down to about 29o C. It is better to avoid the summer season, if you planning for a trip to this part. Monsoon brings a sense of relief for the people in the month of July. The temperature slips down quickly and relieves the inhabitants from extreme heat and exhaustion. Humidity remains around 70% to 75%, making the land a bit patchy and exhausting. People eagerly wait for the month of October as it brings chilly breeze and sooting climate. The maximum temperature falls down to 27o C. The minimum temperature goes down to 3.5oC. The month of January brings fog and mists that make journey bit difficult. Trains get late due to the deep fog.

Months from April to June falls under summer season and the temperature ranges from 38oC to 45oC. July and August bring natural showers and makes the climate pleasant. The temperature goes down to 27oC. Months from October to March remains chilly and cold with temperature falling down to as less as 10oC.

Average Temperature and Rainfall

According to 2008 Census, the average temperature in Bharatpur is 31.7oC.  According to the 2012 Census, the actual rainfall in the region was 73.10 mm which is 05.60 mm more than the normal rainfall.

Dams and Rivers in Bharatpur

Bharatpur district  of Rajasthan is encircled with three main rivers – Gambhir, Ban Ganga and Rooparel. Ban Ganga initiates from the Ramgarh district, which lies in the Jaipur District. Then it passes from Bharatpur and connects river Gambhir. The river Gambhir starts from the Panchna Dam of Karauli district. After passing from Bharatpur, it connects to river Yamuna in U.P. On the other hand, Rooparel rivers initiates from hills of Alwar district and enters into Bharatpur through tehsil Kaman.

Population of Bharatpur

According to the Census of 2011, the population of Bharatpur was 25,48,462. Male population was 13,55,726 and female population was 11,92,736.
